What is WUE?
WUE is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, a program coordinated by the
Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE,
students in western states may enroll in many two-year and four-year
college programs at a reduced tuition level: 150 percent of the
institution's regular resident tuition. In all cases, WUE tuition is
considerably less than non-resident tuition.
Which States Participate?
For academic year 2000 - 2001, the twelfth year of WUE's operation,
resident students from the following states may participate if they meet
eligibility requirements:
| Alaska |
Hawaii |
Nevada |
Oregon |
Washington |
| Arizona |
Idaho |
New Mexico |
South Dakota |
Wyoming |
| Colorado |
Montana |
North Dakota |
Utah |
|
NOTE: Residents of Hawaii may
enroll as WUE students in four-year programs only.
In addition, students from
California are eligible for selected programs in Alaska, New Mexico,
North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.
Programs Available
Virtually all undergraduate fields are available to WUE students at the
participating colleges and universities. Some institutions have opened
their entire curriculum on a space-available or first-come, first-serve
basis; others offer only designated programs.
WUE Bulletin
To learn of the wide array of programs available, consult the WUE
Bulletin. For more detail, examine individual college and university
catalogs. The WUE Bulletin is available from the WICHE Certifying Office
in your state, high school counselors, and admissions offices in
participating institutions.
Eligibility
Some institutions require evidence of academic performance, such as
ACT/SAT test scores or high school GPA, or place other limits on WUE
enrollment. Consult your high school counselor or the the WUE Bulletin
for details.
Application and Admission
If interested, apply for admission and WUE tuition status directly to
the institution(s) of your choice. Mark prominently on the institution's
application form that you seek admission as a WUE student.
Further Information
Further information about specific programs in WUE may be obtained from
the admissions office of the participating institution. Information
about student eligibility and the operation of the program in any state
may be obtained from the home state Certifying Offices.
