EGSG Funding Suspended

What Happened?

  • Due to the State’s revenue shortfall, legislative changes have been made to the Early Graduation Scholarship Grant (EGSG) program that affects all EGSG applicants.

What Does This Mean for Me?

  • All new student grant applications for the Early Graduation Scholarship Grant (EGSG) program have been placed on a one year moratorium (suspension) for the 2009-2010 academic year.
  • Students who graduated after July 1, 2009 will not be eligible to participate in the scholarship program.
  • Students who have received at least one payment will continue to receive remaining payments.
  • Applications for students who graduated prior to July 1, 2009 and who have completed an EGSG application prior to July 1, 2009 will be evaluated for scholarship eligibility.  Due to the limited funds available, eligible students will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis based on application date.  Should funds become exhausted; eligible students not funded will be placed on a waiting list in the event funds become available.

Students should continue to seek additional aid opportunities by:

  • Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  This is the first step in applying for federal, state and institutional financial assistance.
  • Visiting the financial assistance office at their institution to seek out any institutional grants or scholarships that may be available.
  • Visiting their department to see if there are any scholarship opportunities available to students in that specific major.
  • ·Search for scholarships online using free national scholarship searches such as www.fastweb.com or www.finaid.org.
  • Look for scholarship opportunities through local community centers/organizations, your employer, house of worship, or private donors.
  • Students in high school should visit the counseling office to learn of any scholarship opportunities available at the high school.
